Appalachian Center for Economic Networks
ACENet is a community-based economic development organization located in
rural, southeastern Ohio. Their purpose is to work with others in the
area to create a healthy regional economy with many successful
businesses and good jobs; their goal is for people with low incomes to
move out of poverty permanently through employment or business
ownership.
Association for Children for Enforcement of Support
The ACES mission is to assist disadvantaged children affected by parents who
fail to meet the legal, moral, and financial obligations of child support.
ACES is the largest nonprofit grassroots child support advocacy organization
in the United States.
The Brookings Institution
The Brookings Institution functions as an independent analyst and critic,
committed to publishing quality research that furthers public debate. It
serves as a bridge between scholarship and public policy, bringing new
knowledge to the attention of policy makers and affording scholars a better
insight into policy issues.
Economic Policy Institute
The Economic Policy Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank that
seeks to broaden the public debate about strategies to achieve a prosperous
and fair economy.
Institute for Research on Poverty
IRP is a national, university-based center for research into the causes and
consequences of poverty and social inequality in the United States. The
institute sponsors a wide-range of original research and works to
disseminate these findings to better our understanding of poverty.
Joint Center for Poverty Research
The Northwestern University / University of Chicago Joint Center for Poverty
Research supports academic research that examines what it means to be poor
and live in America. JCPR concentrates on the causes and consequences of
poverty in America and the effectiveness of policies aimed at reducing
poverty.
National Center for Children in Poverty
The mission of the National Center for Children in Poverty is to identify
and promote strategies that reduce the incidence of child poverty in the
United States and that improve the life chances of the millions of children
under age six who are growing up poor.
Ohio State Legal Services Association (OSLSA)
OSLSA acts as general counsel to Ohio's poor. OSLSA is a two-part legal
services program, with a direct service component (Southeastern Ohio Legal
Services) and a state support component.
The Urban Institute
The Urban Institute is a nonpartisan policy research organization that
investigates social and economic problems confronting the nation and
analyzes efforts to solve these problems.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
The IRS offers this program to help people with low-to-moderate incomes who
